  • All paperwork signed

  • Contact the company to introduce yourself and confirm report duty time and location

  • Good behaviour

  • Be polite

  • Understand the Health & Safety Policy of the company

  • Send a Thank You Letter

  • Complete the Work Experience Diary at the end 

 

In the Event of Absence, students MUST...

 

  • Contact the employer and copy in Ms Lauren Sharman (lsharman@sis.edu.hk) - let them know the reason and if you need to produce a doctor's note.

 

In case of change of location, students MUST...

 

  • Contact school - we will be visiting you.

 

If you have any concerns during your placement regarding...

 

  • feeling uncomfortable

  • risk of harm/safety

 

Report these to Ms Sharman and a member of the SIS Child Protection team (Ms Purves / Mr Slethaugh / Ms Beaumont). You should report your concerns immediately.

Dress Code

 

The dress code required by your employers will vary. You should seek clarification on what their expectations are, and students should stick to it. If it is not mentioned, students should wear appropriate clothing to workplace (according to its job nature).

 

If students are working in an office and dress code is not mentioned...

Health & Safety

 

Find out the Health & Safety Policy - FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH IT!!!

 

  • Is it written down? Where can it be found?

  • Who is your supervisor?

  • Agree with your employer what you are allowed to do

  • Don't do things you shouldn't without proper training

  • Don't do things you have been told not to do!

  • Get a guided tour of your workplace including where the fire points are and any signs you need to be aware of

 

Find out procedures in case of an emergency - e.g. Fire.

 

Find out who administers First Aid in case of an emergency/ accident.

 

Identify hazards in your workplace - e.g. Chemicals, excessive noise, dust, moving vehicles, moving parts of machinery, heights, animals, repetitive movement, stress......
