IMPORTANT NOTICE:

A week long course for students to learn the process of creating with leather and making a range of leather products from scratch, taken in a specialist leather workshop. This is an extension to the current Design curriculum that is run at SIS and it develops skills that students can potentially apply to their Design projects at school, especially when they get to GCSE, BTEC and IB levels.

Students will have the opportunity to experiment with a range of leather techniques, the course will be run by a specialist outside provider that will provide all specialist tools and materials required. Students will also have the experience to view professional works, understand where to purchase materials and tools and apply their learning to produce a range of products in the leather workshop.

On day one students will learn the basic techniques of how to use templates to mark out leather pieces, cut and treat the leather and assemble the pieces into final products. Students will produce a key chain and a card holder to practise their skills. On day two to day five students will apply their skills to make leather items of their choice, varying in difficulty.

Students will then apply their skills by holding a one off activity at school after the workshop is complete to teach other students some basic leather working skills so that they can make a small product to take home.
