Provisional Programme (subject to final confirmation):

Over the five days of the MaD week, students signing up for this activity will stay in school to explore the diverse roles and types of work that go into putting on a school production.  Activities will be based on one of three crafts, each explored through instructions and demonstrations followed by an independent group and solo work, guided and monitored throughout.

Across the week, students would have the opportunity to try their hand at all three of the following crafts:

  • Ensemble skills (group tasks, ice-breakers, improvisation acting exercises)

  • Set-painting

  • Prop-making

Additional but less extensive explorations would also be made with respect to four different areas:

  • Lighting design

  • Sound design

  • Costume design

  • Make-up

*** IMPORTANT NOTE: Students taking up this MaD activity would *not* automatically adopt a role in the production. Rehearsals will be final by this term, only involving those who auditioned many months earlier. ***

Rationale

  • Students will make a difference by contributing to a community project through their craftsmanship and collaborative skills.

  • Experiential learning will be bountiful.

  • Participants would have the opportunity to work with students of all ages, possibly up to year thirteen (but certainly between at least years eight and ten)

  • Performance work will nurture creativity, communication and risk-taking, as well as the development of confidence.

  • Students will be part of an authentic learning opportunity to benefit the SIS community.

  • The activity will perfectly suit students who love drama, theatre, art or design and enjoy working collaboratively and practically on group projects.

  • Students who have an interest in theatre but perhaps are relatively introverted will be delighted that they can contribute towards the more holistic side of theatre
